Performance Points System Explained

The Alan Henderson Memorial Cup is named after a young fellow from the club who died at a tragically young age, and it rewards the most consistent performer throughout the year. It is traditionally the most sought after award at the end of season prize giving evening.

All players regardless of the grade they play in are eligible for this award with points awarded throughout the season based on batting, bowling, fielding and team performaces.

Batting Points are comprised of one point per run scored if the batter scores 30 runs or more with additional bonus points added for reaching 50 (20 points) and 100 (150 points).

If a batter scores less than 30 runs in an innings, no points are allocated. If a batter scores between 30 and 49 runs in an innings, the batter will receive one point per run. If a batter scores between 50 and 99 runs, the batter will receive one point per run as well as 20 bonus points. If a batter scores 100 runs or more, the batter will receive one point per run as well as 150 bonus points.

For example, scoring 39 runs will result in 39 points; scoring 75 runs will result in 95 points; and scoring 125 points will result in 275 points being awared.

Bowling points are comprised of points being awarded for wickets taken and in limited overs games, low economy rates are also rewarded. To qualify for points, a bowler needs to take at least two wickets in an innings which will result in 20 points with points increasing as more wickets are taken.

A three wicket haul will result in 35 points; four wickets will result in 75 points; and five wickets will result in 100 points with a further wicket on top of five bringing in 100 additional points to a maximum of 600 being awarded for a 10-wicket haul in an innings.

In addition to points being awarded for wickets taken in an innings, bowlers are rewarded for low economy rates in limited over fixtures. To qualify for economy rate points, a minimum of four overs must be bowled. An economy rate of under three runs per over will result in 25 points; under two runs an over will result in 50 points; and an economy rate of under one run an over will result in 100 points being awarded.

Fielding points are given out for each catch taken as well as run-outs or stumpings made. One catch or run-out will result in 10 points being awarded; two fielding dismissals will result in 25 points; three dismissals will result in 40 points; four dismissals will result in 100 points; five dismissals will result in 150 points; and six or more dismissals will result in 200 points being awarded.

For wicket-keepers, a stumping is worth 20 points with three or more stumpings resulting in 100 points being awarded.

Points for team victories are also awarded with a one-day win resulting in 15 points being awarded to each player that participated in the match and a two-day victory earning players 40 points each.

At the end of the season, all points awarded to players are tallied up with the player having the highest aggregate total being awarded the Alan Henderson Cup.
